What is Dice Dreams?

Last Saturday, on the same day that Ohio State University made its season debut in college football, James teased a new commercial relationship with Polymarket. James, an ardent Buckeyes’ supporter, posted a brief video on social media platform X, where he announced his partnership with the controversial platform. While college football fans watched Ohio State thrash Miami (Ohio) 56-3, industry stakeholders wondered aloud which athletes would join “King James”.

After all, James indicated in the post that more details would be forthcoming. By Tuesday, the stakeholders received their answer when Polymarket aired a splashy ad that received more than 15.5 million views on James’ X page.

Following an extended three-day holiday for Labor Day Weekend, Polymarket went live with a colourful 90-second spot directed by award-winning filmmaker Peter Berg, the director of the acclaimed television series Friday Night Lights. The spot, which featured the likes of Eli Manning, Derek Jeter, Richard Sherman, John Leguizamo and Spike Lee, among other celebrities, coincided with the launch of Squads, a new social experience within the US Polymarket app.

In April, Interactive Games LLC, a unit of Cantor, sued DraftKings and Flutter Entertainment’s FanDuel, alleging the two largest domestic online sportsbook operators infringed on its patents. That suit arrived a decade after Interactive Games brought similar litigation against the sports wagering giants, which was challenged by both companies.

In the suit brought earlier this year, the Cantor unit accuses the two gaming companies of infringing on five of its patents and requested an undisclosed amount of financial damages.

Interactive Games was once a part of Cantor Gaming, which no longer operates. That entity was familiar with controversy, enduring allegations of money laundering and nearly losing its Nevada license in 2018. The parent company sold the business in 2019.

Speaking to iGB at the time, Bjorn Fuchs, chairman of VNLOK Fuchs noted “there was a sigh of relief going through the room when it was presented”.

Rather than a crackdown across the board, what emerged was a more regulated renewal framework.

Of the KSA’s update, Fuchs said: “If you [as an operator] have a clean sheet, there are some hoops, but for various modules you can just send a declaration which states that you’re compliant.”
